The Black Stars of Ghana kicked off their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying campaign in grand style after beating South Africa 2-0 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Defensive midfielder Thomas Partey netted the first goal in the 32nd minute after converting a decisive pass from Jordan Ayew into a low ground shot that broke the tie in favour of the Black Stars.

The Black Stars sealed the game in the second half after substitute Kudus Mohammed, who, making his debut appearance, wrestled a ball in the South African half and fired straight into the top corner of the goalpost.

The team now sits second on the group table with 3 points, behind Sudan who tops the group after beating Sao Tome and Principe 4-0 on Wednesday.  Ghana looks to brighten its AFCON qualifying fortunes as it takes on Sao Tome and Principe on an away match on Monday
