Kim Chisolm, an experienced counselor with a degree in psychology and a love for sports, will be presenting an online mental toughness summer camp called Mental Fortitude: A Cognitive and Behavioral Journey for Athletes this summer. The two-week camp on mental toughness will be held virtually from June 28 through July 9, and again from July 12 through July 23, 2021, from 9am to 12pm EST.

Founded by Kim Chisolm, LCSW, CASC, the online camp will teach young athletes what is takes to win, not just in sports, but also in life. Chisolm has over 27 years of experience counseling young adults and specializes in depression, anxiety, stress management, and overall wellness, among others. Chisolm will take students on a cognitive-behavioral journey to explore the mental and behavioral components of mental toughness.

Chisolm has combined a degree in psychology with a love for sports and an appreciation for resiliency to create the curriculum for Mental Fortitude. With extensive experience facilitating adolescent-focused groups in various settings and various topics, Chisolm is excited to embark on the journey of Mental Fortitude: A Cognitive and Behavioral Journey for Athletes.

The goal of this camp is to teach promising athletes the most critical skill sets when facing competition, mental toughness. It is specifically designed to approach mental fortitude through a focused and guided lens. “Participants will be able to apply the content learned to the wonderful world of sports and life in general.” According to Drake, “Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination.”

According to Psychology Today in an article written by Frank L. Smoll, Ph.D., “One of the highest compliments an athlete can get is the label ‘mentally tough’. Mental toughness isn’t a quality that people are born with. Rather, it includes a set of learned attitudes and ways of viewing competitive situations in productive ways.”

Smoll goes on to state that teaching mental toughness gives athletes a priceless gift benefitting many areas of life. He also stresses the importance that sports should be fun, it is important to realize that the process of achieving master is a long and difficult road, mistakes are part of learning, and effort is what counts.

Mental Fortitude: A Cognitive and Behavioral Journey for Athletes will equip athletes with these skills. It is important to be mentally tough and to keep striving for your goals in a positive and constructive way. Teaching young athletes that self-worth is not based on performance and that the lessons learned while practicing and playing sports can be applied to other aspects of life such as relationships and school are also key benefits of this camp.
