Peter Tabichi, the Kenyan who earlier this year was adjudged World’s Best Teacher has met with US President Donald Trump ahead of an address he is scheduled to deliver at the United Nations General Assembly.

Tabichi had in March this year won the 2019 Global Teacher Prize. A member of the Franciscan Religious Order and science teacher at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School, Tabichi gives 80% of his monthly income to help the poor in his home country of Kenya. In a eulogy delivered in his honour, the White House Press Secretary says “His dedication, hard work, and belief in his students’ talent has led his poorly resourced school in Kenya to emerge victorious after taking on the country’s best schools in national science competitions. Peter, you inspire us all! Thank you for your commitment to your students.”

He is expected to recite a prayer before a UN General Assembly sitting opens on Tuesday.
