Zambia women’s football team captain Barbara Banda has launched a foundation to empower girls in the Southern African country.

Football Association of Zambia Facebook page says the Barbara Banda Foundation will focus on supporting programmes that promote empowerment for women and girls and fighting Gender Based Violence.

Like many, I did not come from a place of abundance hence I understand what it means to need help and no one willing to help you,” the China-based striker is quoted saying.

“I have also experienced how much easier life gets when you have people ready to help you on your path to success.”

Banda won the Golden Boot Award for the Chinese Women’s League last season after scoring 18 goals in 13 games for Shanghai Shengli.
